Hello everyone!
Even though you can see the children through the web-cam each Sunday evening, we still like to brag a little about how they have grown these past few months!
We have been working on the renovation and expansion of the Center since the middle of July. Most of the dirty work; taking down the old wall surface, whitewashing the ceiling, knocking out a space in a wall for a new window, and outdoor projects with cement and sand lasted for about six weeks. During that time, the orphanage gave us a place to live so the children would not be exposed to the dust and debris. We moved the nannies and nine children to the orphanage.
Those were hot and humid days, we kept the fans running all the time to try to keep some air moving for the children. It was so uncomfortable. During this time, Zhang Yu, Xiao Rui and Tian Tian came down with the flu (along with other children in the orphanage), and ran a fever with so much congestion. Later, the others came down with it, too. With medication they began to improve, except for Zhang Yu, the weakest one, who was ill for two weeks.
At the end of August, we had a visit from some people from Johnson-Control who took the children to the park. It was a nice break for all of us. The children had a full month in August, and spent a lot of time outdoors.
Late in August, we moved back to our Center. Xin Yi had improved so much and was now chubby and well-fed, so the orphanage wanted him to stay. While we were moving back, he was following the nannies when the taxis were waiting outside the orphanage. We had to tell him good-bye....it was very hard to do. We left there with a new little one; Liang Liang is a 9 month old boy who is blind.
We are happy to welcome September. The weather is getting cooler and cooler, and our Center is getting neater as things are settling into order. On September 5, Chang Zhi Rui, Chang Hui Qiu and Chang Hui Ting were picked up by the orphanage staff. Ting will be having her cleft lip repaired, and the other two are stronger now so the orphanage is ready for them. On that same day, we welcomed four new children; Chang Hui Ying, Chang Nui Ning, Chang Zhi Yuan and Chang Hui Jun. The new little ones were kept in a separate area for a week to avoid spreading any illnesses to the other children. One was running a fever upon arrival and found to have a lung infection; she was weak from a congenital heart problem. On September 12, Dr. Frank checked all the children. Little Ying's fever was normal, and she joined the others on the 17th. All the new arrivals now have color in their cheeks and are gaining weight. The nannies are feeding them every three hours day and night.
Every time I write a report to you, I have so much to say and so many photos to share, but there is never enough time or space in the emails. We cannot begin to thank everyone enough for your support of the Center and all the children. We are so happy to have the web-cam so you can see the results of this support in the happy faces of the children! We have had 72 children come through our Center now. Many have gone on to be adopted. We now have 10 children here and hope we are able to help all of them, too.
