Chondropathy
Siping Center July 7, 2006 September 2009
Chondropathy refers to a disease of the cartilage. The photo at the left is the first photo we had of him after he entered the Center. Even then he was a very happy boy.
Update: September 2009
Zhang Tian is a smart one; he is now speaking in 5-word sentences, and is the "Wise Man" of the group. He takes care of the everyday snacks, and is always asking the nannies to make dumplings, stew meats, fresh corn and other things for him to eat. Take a look at that face.... he is ready to take on the world.
Update: June 2009
Zhang Tian is the big brother of the Center. He has been living here for about three years. He survived through months of fevers, lying in bed for two years with his soft chest looking like thin paper moving up and down whenever he breathed. His little arms and legs were like floppy noodles. Just since last February, he has been gaining strength and become a little person. He is truly a miracle child. Right now, he can stand against a wall and walk while holding on to something. He is also the smartest child in the group, and knows to call the nannies for help if a baby is crying! Currently, his weight is 9kg; height is 74cm; head circumference is 48cm; and chest is 49cm.
Update: February 2009
Half year ago, Zhang Tian could hold his head up very well, and also hold up his body with two arms for a little while. Now you can see he is standing against the wall by himself. He loves to show people how much he can do. He misses his buddy Weiwei so much.
Update: October 2008
Zhang Tian never gave up trying, and Dr. Frank never gave up on him either; he said that one day Tian would walk by himself. We have all been waiting for that day to come! Tian has been lying on his back, unable to support himself, for three years now. Sita recorded him last January while they were working on his arms and legs. He said he was "exercising". Well, that exercising has finally paid off! This June, Tian was able to sit up all by himself for the first time. By August, he was able to stand while holding on to something. After three years of lying on his back, Tian has almost reached his goal of walking! How happy this little boy must be!
Tian is a smart boy, who knows a lot of tricks (!), and is always eager to help the nannies.
